The imaginary world of Lucy #3 & #4

We continue making a database where we can turn to whenever we get stuck in creating a world. The thirth task is to find textures, the fourth is to collect images that fill you with excitement and wonder. This is my pinterestboard for the images, rest of the post is about texture.

I was thinking wat texture is. I came up with so many answers that I decided to google it. It is a word with many meanings. I stick to the simple definition as above. I made a pinterestboard to collect pictures of textures I think are interesting. Also I made a mixed media painting using lots of textures.

I sketched the face of Lucy and gave it some color before adding texture. Then I started adding my texture. I use a leaf, some lace, yarn, washi tape and some concrete texture paste.

I dry brushed some white gesso on top of the texture and colored it with watercolors and glimmermist. I like a lot how the leaf turned out. Can’t wait to see how it will be in a few weeks. I might use leaves more often.

WOYWW 383

It’s been a while I joined, but on Wednesday there is still  the opportunity to peek on other peoples workdesks. I always enjoy seeing what others are doing and seeing other peoples messes makes me feel so normal 🙂

There is a lot of tiny stuff going on. I started to make my first cards for christmas. A fun project to make an advent calendar with ATC. You can join here if you like, membership is free. I’m not in the mood for christmas yet. The weather is still nice and christmas seems so far away. But it is October and december is here before you know it.

Stitching on polaroids

I’m in this swap where we have to make a waterfall book and using what we have around. I have this pile of polaroid pictures I want to use forever in a project, but never knew how.

Searching on Pinterest I saw images that had embroidery on them and I thought this was a really cool idea. So I’m stitching and stitching and holding the needle too strong and now my finger hurts. But I do think these polaroids look really cool.

A mixed media canvas

For a while now I’m admiring the mixed media canvases on youtube. Like the 1 in this video. I’ve been collecting small items and gave it a shot myself.

I started with a canvas made of a recycled magazine. It’s easy to make, you simply glue the pages of a magazine together. It reduces garbage and it gives a wrinkled texture, what I like. I added more texture with texture paste and uses sprayinkt to color the background. I used a stamp of Dylusions. All little pieces got a layer of gesso and when dry a layer of acrylic paint. Then I glued it al down and was finished. I think it would be better if I used a more old looking paper for the stamp, maybe paper colored with tea.

It’s nothing like the canvases I watched on youtube, but I do like it. Here are some close-ups.

The 100 day project

On instagram I joined a 100 day challenge. It’s pretty simple, you choose your own theme and do something for that for 100 days showing 1 picture each day.

I know doing the same thing for 100 days wont work for me. I choose living a creative life as my theme. Is that cheating? Choosing something you already do every day for years? It still is a little hard, I don’t do something creative every single day. Altough that depends on the definition of being creative. To me it goes further than making art. Cooking and gardening are part of my creative life as well and I need to relax in the shower, play a videogame every now and than and spend time with family and friends to get new energy to be able to live a creative life. So it will be 100 pictures of art and things I do to keep the creativity alive.

Things like cooking a new dish, paint a cat and preparing the office for a bithdayparty. Honoring prince, I was shocked by his death, still can’t really believe it.

Other things I did in the past 12 days are visiting a fantasy festival (and that is a boost for creative ideas!) and make some more art.

I will not bore you with every detail of the challenge. Some things are interesting enough to get an own blogpost, the others I’ll give an update every now and then. You can follow me on instagram ofcourse, my username is angenita.

Strong woman mailart

On march 8 it was international womenday. I live in a country where women can do the same things as men can do. We can vote, can be leaders, can visit a doctor. We can be independent. This is not normal in the whole world and therefor I think this international day is important.

The rights I have didn’t came by simply waiting. Strong women fight for these rights. To honour them, to be gratefull for these rights and to remember there still needs to be done a lot of work we did a strong women mailart swap.

I choose Aletta Jacobs as my strong woman. She was joined the university in 1871 and was the first dutch woman to graduate. She became a doctor and gave her clients information about birthcontrol.

In those days you could vote when you earned a certain amount of money and Aletta was the first woman who could vote. The law was changed so women could no longer vote. She became a fighter against this law. In 1919 it was changed again.

Face 14 and mission inspiration

Those female faces go pretty fast and easy now. Maybe I should give it a try without the grit, see if my muscles remember where to place eyes, nose and ears. I start to understand why the teacher of my modeling drawing class always tells me I draw eyes far too big. Seeing the eyes trough the grit I start to realise eyes are very small. And ears are big, very very big! I’ve been looking at the mirror to see if mine are this big too. And yes they are. I think I stop paying attention to those ears because I feel a complex coming.

Mission inspiration can be found on facebook. There are 10 written prompts given (like use 2 colors paint, add a stamp, doodle, etc) and by following the prompts I made this. I’m not sure if I like the result but it was fun to make. It felt freeing to just play with my supplies and see what happens.

I used a new texture paste that gives a cement look. I love it! By using the heatgun all sorts of bubbles start to appear. I think I will have a lot of fun with it.

Yeti and Unicorn

Once upon a February, a box of Valentine chocolates was mis-delivered, and as a result, the Yeti accidentally received a present from the Unicorn. Or maybe it was the other way around. Anyway, for one brief shining moment, there was love, true love, love that could power the whole world with its glittery brightness.

Well, that’s a swapdescription that triggers me. The possibilities are endless.

True love forever was what Yeti thought in that new glittery world. They where so happy, singing songs, giving kisses. But that glittery world became less glittery when Unicorn started complaining about Yetis big hands, big feet, big belly. ‘You are just too too Big, it’s too much for me’ and she flee away. Taking all the glittery with her leaving Yeti with a broken heart.
